Featuring my favorite “Local Astoria Poet”

This poem was written by a fellow I went to Astoria High School with, his real name is Tim Rummell. I love what he shares with his poetry, he's a talented writer...yet to discover himself...I look forward to the day when he really understands how he touches so many with his thought provoking good works...what he accomplishes with a small number of words is amazing!
Childhood Friend
Fear,
Dreadful instinct;
Certainly kept me
from putting my
curious hand on a hot stove,
or diving headlong
into a raging river.
Yes,
Where I was impetuous,
Fear stepped in.
to crack a warning whip.
From the first moments
of my recollection, though,
fear has bullied me.
The problem is
I loathe bullies.
Fear
Said “Go ahead, find a better friend.”
And so I did. Her name’s Faith,
She is fickle as fortune.
She lies to me,
She taunts me.
She laughs at me.
But,
When Fear pushes
her around the playground,
Faith always pushes back,
and I like that.
